Massage
Relaxation Massage
A Swedish style massage that is gentle and soothing. This massage can help relieve a broad range of symptoms such as sleeplessness, hormonal imbalance, swelling, arthritis, and over-all tension. This massage can be done in 30, 60, or 90 Minutes.
Pain Relief Massage
This massage is for addressing specific pain complaints, and to aid in recovery from surgery, injury, and postural dysfunction. In this session, I will work with your particular condition and preferences to help you feel better and move more freely. I may use traditional Swedish massage techniques with Acupressure, Trigger Point Massage and Myofascial Release, in conjunction with Magnet Therapy, Massage Taping, Moxabustion, Cupping, and other support therapies to help relieve pain. Book a 60 minute massage for work on only one area of complaint, or 90 minutes for a more in-depth treatment of your whole body, including those specific areas of pain.
*Note: 30 minute sessions are usually not long enough for this type of pain relief session, but if that’s all the time or all the cash you have, then that’s okay, too. A little something is better than nothing!
Pregnancy Massage
This massage session is for women during pregnancy or postpardum when a little extra time, care, and know-how are needed to address common complaints such as back and shoulder pain, headaches, stuffy nose, nausea, fluid retention, general achiness and discomfort due to pregnancy and child bearing. You will undress to your level of comfort and lay on the massage table on your side (with many pillows wedged in), so that your belly and breasts are as comfy as possible during the massage. Andrea will use a combination of Swedish Massage and Acupressure Points to help relieve your complaints and tailor the massage specifically to you. Often, a woman's massage preferences change as her body and hormones change, so you may begin the massage liking extra deep pressure, and end up with more light relaxing pressure, and everything in between! So, consider this massage an excercise in flexibility -- EVERYTHING is optional. If you are super sensitive to scents, techniques, or sounds, that is okay. We will find what works for you! This session can be done in 30, 60 or 90 minutes.
*Note on Post Pardum Massage: It can be tough to get away after giving birth, when you might feel like you need the attention the most – so feel free to have the baby in the room for your massage! No one will complain if there is fussing or eating or pooing or drooling or giggling or barfing or whatever else that baby comes up with. It’s all okay. ; )
Asian Bodywork
This style of bodywork can be completely different from a Swedish style massage. You may be clothed (wear something comfortable for this one), lying on top of the massage table, or on a massage mat on the floor. I will use hand techniques that are different from the smooth strokes of Swedish massage. Usually this massage is done without oil and, in addition to including Acupressure, your session may involve putting magnets or Kinesiotape on certain problem areas of your body. This massage, like all the rest, is tailored to fit your needs at the moment. Some people will find the Asian bodywork session invigorating, while others may fall into a deep sleep. This session is usually 60 minutes long.
Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese style of energy work, which is believed to work on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level. The session is set up much like the Asian Bodywork session as seen above. You will be clothed (unless you would like to receive Reiki during another massage session where you may already be unclothed and under a sheet), and on the massage table just as you normally would be, relaxed and comfortable. During the Reiki session, hands are placed lightly over the seven major energy centers in the body, called Chakras, as well as joints, hands, feet, and anywhere else you may need extra attention. What you will experience is up to you -- you may fall asleep or feel tingly, or feel other positive sensations in your mind and body. Most people who receive Reiki report a general sense of well-being and relaxation. Since this type of bodywork does not move the tissue around, it is recommended as an alternative to deep massage work, in cases where massage would be contraindicated, such as in serious injuries and open wounds, post-surgery, cancer, cases of lymph abnormalities, and any other condition in which massage would be harmful more than helpful. This session is 60 minutes long by itself, or 30 minutes added onto another session. .
Infant Massage
Infant massage has been shown to help babies adjust to their new surroundings, help ease colic, aid in digestion, and help them grow up to 50% stronger than babies without touch therapy (Really!). This massage is also for you and your baby to connect and bond in a different way than you may be used to. I will give your infant or toddler a massage, which will last 10-15 minutes, depending on your child's needs and/or mood. Then, the rest of the session will be instructing you in doing infant massage, so that you can do it together at home. Of course, after the first session, if you bring your child in to receive multiple sessions, the parent-tutorial session can be replaced by more baby massage! Book this massage for 30 minutes.

Pain Relief Extras
Massage Taping
This unique treatment is great for athletes, injury recovery (like a sprain or strain) or postural correction. It includes an assessment of the problem area, and the use of therapeutic massage tape, which is somewhat like a cross between athletic tape and an Ace bandage. This tape is made from a very flexible, water-permeable material that has a non-allergenic, medical grade adhesive on the back arranged in a fingerprint design. This fingerprint design, when against your skin, allows the skin and fascial tissue to stretch and be worked as you move your body. It's like a massage without the massage!
The taping session is best done when the skin is clean and dry. To ensure that the tape application lasts as long as possible, avoid putting on lotion or oil before coming to a taping session. The tape can be gotten wet, so there is no need to avoid swimming or shower (your friends and family will thank you for that!).
This can be done as part of any other massage session, but takes about 30 minutes, so let me know at the beginning of the session for time management’s sake. Or, book a 30 minute session for just taping (taping alone includes some tape to take home with you to reapply yourself in a few days).
Chinese Cupping
Cupping is a negative-pressure modality used to relieve swelling, stimulate circulation, warm tissues, and lessen pain in an area of tension. The cups look like glass globes of various different sizes. Usually, oil is applied to the skin at the site of pain or myofascial tightness. Here is the crazy-sounding part... A small flame (like that of a candle or a lit cotton ball) is placed inside the cup for a moment. This uses the oxygen up inside the cup and makes it warm to the touch. The cup is then placed on the skin, and allowed to create a suction (the suction is from the lack of oxygen inside of the cup). At this point, the cup can be left in one place, or moved around by sliding it slowly across your skin. In Western massage terms, this is a type of myofascial release, and in Chinese Medicine it is said to release stagnation and draw out toxins. It feels somewhat like a warm octopus arm massaging you. In a good way! Please note that the skin will be colored afterward, depending on your body, may vary anywhere from pink, to red, to even purple... Do not be alarmed. That is the point of the treatment: to redistribute blood and fluids, and move the layers of skin, which sometimes causes marks to remain afterward.
Magnet Therapy
Magnets are widely used to bring pH balance, charge and clean drinking water, and promote production of negative ions for healing benefits. The type of magnet used in these sessions look like tiny pellets, smaller than a seed. They are gold plated and are attached to a small square of adhesive tape. They are placed over acupressure points, depending on your individual issues, and left on your skin for up to 3 days. There are no side effects from these magnets, and many people respond very well to them, saying that they have decreased pain and swelling, and even less instances of flare-ups from chronic issues when these magnets are used preventatively.
